Take Control of Your Finances

Surveys continually show that anywhere from one-half to two-thirds of Americans say they live paycheck-to-paycheck. Silvia Klatman, owner of Budget YOU! has set out to lower those statistics by filling in the pieces of people’s financial education through her blogs, tutorial videos and now through a monthlong weekly on-line class called BudgetYOU!
Klatman believes that you can reduce financial stress with behavior-based budgeting. Through live Wednesday and Saturday sessions, BudgetYOU! will help participants reset their relationship with money. “No matter where you are in your personal journey, this is your starting line and you go forward from today”, said Klatman. “We help people understand the goal is to change what you can control.”
The four-week program contains three consecutive 45-minute on-line classes with 15 minutes for questions. The last class is scheduled for four weeks later and the group discusses their progress. According to Klatman, “people can share challenges in a safe space about what tripped them up and what temptations there were.” With a maximum of 10 participants, even the shyest participants can feel comfortable getting involved in the group’s conversations.
When Klatman began the formulation of her business, she thought her clients would be young adults just starting out and needing financial education. What she quickly learned was there was interest from a wide range of ages and experience levels. “Most people understand there are ways to improve and learn, so the levels we have engaged with are vastly different,” Klatman said.
Yes, Klatman provides general financial acumen, like max out your company’s 401K contributions, but Budget You! focuses even more on controlling your spending. Don’t let society and social media pressure you into making bad choices. “Remember we can be individuals and shake judgement and feeling we have to be spending like other people do.”
Emotions play into the decisions we make; plus modern finances and spending are made to feel complicated. Budget YOU! wants to guide you on a simpler path which will help ease your stress about money.
